Coca-Cola remains world’s biggest brand

Coca-Cola remains world’s biggest brand

The soft drink Coca-Cola is still the planet’s most chosen brand, as a list of the world’s favourite products shows no movement among the top five.

Colgate remains the second most selected brand from the shop shelf, while Nescafe is unmoved in third.

The Nestle brand however, has moved up one place in the planet’s product chart to 14th place, while Procter & Gamble’s US fabric softener Downy is the top 50’s biggest riser – up 12 places to 17th.

According to the Kantar Worldpanel Brand Footprint report, Oreo has also been one of 2014’s success stories, rising two places to 24th, while last year’s biggest faller was Coffee Mate, down seven places to 45th.

The brands knocking on the door of the top 50 include mayonnaise provider Hellman’s (51st), while Yakult has defied all predictions to rise quickly through the rankings by eight places, becoming the 57th most-bought brand.

“Yakult is a compelling success story from the 2014 Brand Footprint ranking,” the report said. “Last year Yakult was declining four per cent. Yet the brand has successfully revised its fortune; delivering 18 per cent positive growth. It now sits at position 57 and has bucked the trend of decline for probiotics – as demonstrated in Activia’s loss of 5.6 million shoppers globally.”

The report also contains interesting facts about consumer habits, such as how portions eaten by men in the UK are on average 20 per cent larger than those consumed by women, while women choose ‘healthy’ brands 25 per cent more often than men.

The report also found that only 32 per cent of women in France use hair conditioner once a week, while in China it is 67 per cent. Meanwhile, in Russia, a quarter of all baby juices and purees consumers are over 18.
