Enterprise Week to help companies target export opportunities
Local businesses who want to find out more about how to bring their products and services to new markets are invited to attend a special export event.
The event is taking place as part of Enterprise Week, will bring together a panel of speakers who have already embarked on the journey and can share their own experiences and expertise.
Led by Derry City and Strabane District Council, Enterprise Week, which runs from 04-09 March, is the North West’s biggest business event, with a wide array of advice and information on hand to inspire, motivate and support local companies in establishing or building a successful business.
The Export Market is one avenue for companies hoping to expand their interests and accelerate profits through international sales, and this event asks the question ‘Going Global – are you Export Ready?’
Business Development Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Louise Breslin, said the event would assist any company with aspirations in the export industry.
“Taking your product or service to a new market is a great way to help your business develop and grow,” she said. “Export provides an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to boost profits and it can also encourage innovation and enhanced competitiveness within your business.
“Businesses can find it difficult to navigate through the volume of information and advice available, so this informal event aims to provide practical tips and insights from local SME’s who are already successfully operating in the global marketplace.”
The panel on the day will represent a range of sectors featuring companies at different stages of their export journey. There will be the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about what they have learnt from their experiences and their tips for success.
Derry and Strabane Council, working in partnership with Donegal County Council, has already established firm connections in the US, China and London markets offering local companies a direct link to international business and civic networks. Regular trade missions have provided an effective platform for local companies and partners to establish contacts and identify potential target markets.
Advisors will be available after the seminar to provide more information on support services available for those considering exporting. Among the speakers will be Bridie Mullin, the founder and director of Bridie Mullin Linen, who has 20 years experience in the textile and design industry; Martina Rogers, Co-founder and Director of Northbound Brewery, a family run craft brewery trading throughout Ireland, Scotland and England; John McColgan, founder and Director, Joule Group, a Fire Engineering Consultancy business with studios in N. Ireland and Dubai, and United Arab Emirates; David Roberts, Chief Economist Invest NI, who provides tailored economic analysis and advice, as well as overseeing the appraisal and evaluation of projects and programmes. The event will be hosted by Dr Lisa Bradley from the Department of Global Business & Enterprise at University of Ulster.
The ‘Going Global – are you Export Ready?’ event will take place on Wednesday March 6, at 1.30pm – 3pm in the Guildhall’s Whittaker Suite.
