It’s the biggest Community Coffee Morning in Northern Ireland as local bakers and brewers gear up to prepare coffees and traybakes that will mean more this Saturday 14 March.

For the fourth year, over 60 EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA supermarkets and their teams will host a Community Coffee Morning in aid of Cancer Fund for Children, with selected stores putting on fun and games for all the family to raise money for a very important cause.

Over the past nine years, Cancer Fund for Children has received over £1 million raised by the supermarkets’ staff and shoppers, with every penny going towards helping families and young people in Northern Ireland living with cancer, like Nichola and Alannah Mills who helped launch the event for 2020.

Nichola was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2016 when her daughter Alannah was just four weeks old. She is also mum to Luke (19), Kelsey (12), Georgia-Leigh (9) and Ryley (6). Alannah is now three.

Nichola commented; “I would encourage everyone to go out and support the coffee morning as I have been in the unfortunate position of thinking: ‘where do I turn, who’s going to help us, what do we do, how are we going to manage, what about the kids?’. I really valued the support from Cancer Fund for Children as they just lifted a weight off our shoulders.

“You never know when you might need the support and I hope no one ever does, but when you get a diagnosis you feel so alone. With this support you know there’s someone there who can help you and your family through it. The services they offer are just amazing…I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, I just urge everyone to go out and support it.”

Jade Manning, brand manager at Henderson Group which owns the EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA brands in Northern Ireland added; “It is such a privilege to be able to help families like the Mills through our continued partnership with Cancer Fund for Children.

“We have raised £160,000 through our Community Coffee Mornings alone and we’ve recently surpassed the £1 million milestone which is an incredible achievement. We’re so thankful to our retailers and shoppers for their continued support and kind donations.”

In participating supermarkets, families can come along to enjoy face painting and games, and tasty complimentary buns, cakes and traybakes from SPAR’s enjoy local range, as well as homemade treats baked by the store staff who have made the partnership a huge success.

Barista Bar coffee will also be available in exchange for a donation in store towards the charity, while those who can’t make it in-store to support the initiative can do so by donating online.

Alex Murdock, Corporate Fundraiser at Cancer Fund for Children added; “EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA staff and shoppers have been overwhelmingly generous over the past nine years, which is evident in passing the £1 million milestone. We’re really looking forward to the Community Coffee Morning 2020 and to meeting more families during the mornings of fun planned across Northern Ireland.”
