Plans for new Lidl store at Holywood Exchange

Lidl Northern Ireland has plans to open a new store at the Holywood Exchange retail park in Belfast.

Lidl Northern Ireland confirmed that its proposals for the vacant Unit A, which is located adjacent to Harvey Norman and IKEA, would create 26 new jobs as part of an anticipated £2.6 million investment and fit-out in the new store.

If the store gets planning approval it will boast a sales area of around 1,400 square metres, and a total internal area of 2,050 square metres.

With a strong local road network and extensive parking of around 700 spaces in an established, growing retail location, the retail park is already home to Harvey Norman, Next Home, Decathlon, EZ Living Interiors, Costa Coffee and Subway, among others.

Unit A was previously occupied by Wrights Sofa Land.

Holywood Exchange occupies a landmark position around three miles east of Belfast City Centre and eight miles from Bangor and is situated adjacent to the town of Holywood.

The site is also located at the primary gateway into Belfast Harbour Estate.

A public consultation event will be held at Unit A, Holywood Exchange Retail Park, 304 Airport Road West, Belfast, BT3 9EJ, on Tuesday 2nd July 2019 from 3pm to 7pm.

In March, Lidl Northern Ireland opened a new, spacious Antrim store at Junction One, adding eight new jobs to an already 27-strong team in what is now amongst the greenest and most sustainable supermarket retail outlets in Northern Ireland.

A spokesman for Lidl Northern Ireland said: “With 38 established stores employing more than 800 staff in locations across Northern Ireland, we’re excited about the prospect of creating a new store at Holywood Exchange and to bringing our fresh, high quality, low price proposition to more customers across the east Belfast and North Down area.”
