Put small business first on Saturday

Ahead of one of the busiest shopping days of the year, a leading association of NI retailers has called on shoppers to support independent traders.

Saturday December 5 will be ‘Small Business Saturday’, an initiative driven locally by the Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA).

NIIRTA chief executive Glyn Roberts, along with association member and Top 100 Small Business Saturday finalist Chris Suitor, attended Chancellor George Osborne’s reception for Small Business Saturday at the HM Treasury in London today.

Speaking from the Treasury reception Glyn Roberts said: “Shoppers have a real opportunity to do their bit and support their local shops on Small Business Saturday and throughout the Christmas period. Independent retailers offer quality, choice and something different to the multiple retailers.

“We want to see support not just for Independent Retailers, but every type of Small Business, be it local cafes, restaurants, bars, hairdressers or local producers.”

Mr Roberts said this Saturday represented ‘National Entrepreneur Day’, celebrating the jobs, investment and services small businesses provide.

“It is also a beacon to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs, which is so vital to the future of our local economy,” he added.

Chris Suitor said: “We are delighted that our position as one of the leading menswear specialists has been put on the UK map as one the Top 100 Small Business Saturday.”
