Retailers across the country have gone pink for the Giro d’Italia cycle event which kicked off today in Belfast.

Local Centra stores which are located on the route of the ‘Big Start’ are hosting a number of activities during the three-day event to celebrate the big race.

Leslie Stafford and his team at Centra Wellington Place completed a cycle on a static bike at the front of the shop to cover 218km, which is the same distance as stage two of the Giro d’Italia route, with a £5k target to raise for Action Cancer.

They will also be serving Giro-inspired refreshments and sweets including pink lemonade, pink buns, pink coconut fingers and pink honeycomb.

McGoveran’s Centra Stranmillis is also on the route and has a fantastic Giro-inspired window display. The store also makes its own ice cream and pink gelato will be available especially for spectators as well as a range of pizzas freshly made in-store.

Biesty’s Centra Ballymoney is centrally located on the route at the Portrush Road roundabout, which will be a main spectator hub. As sponsors of its local cycling club, Biesty’s is getting fully behind the Giro d’Italia, organising a Family Fun day on May 10 from 10am-2pm.
