Nisa has revealed its final Big Deal of the summer and it features two Big Night In favourites – pizza and beer.

The new deal, which saves shoppers up to £9.55 off the RRP, landed in Nisa stores earlier this week and will be available right up until the end of the month.

It comprises two pizzas, either Co-op Stonebaked Margherita 320g or Co-op Stonebaked Pepperoni Pizza 327g – or one of each – and either Budweiser, 4x300ml, Bud Light, 4x300ml, or Budweiser 0%, 4x330ml, all for just £5. As a non-licensed alternative, a selection of Coca-Cola variants are also available.

Laura Gomersal, Head of Marketing at Nisa said: “Big Night In and other at home occasions continue to grow in popularity, as highlighted by the record breaking viewing figures from the recent Euro Women’s final, with shoppers cutting back on out of home spending due to economic uncertainty.

“Pizza and beer is one of those classic combinations that feels like a real treat and with research revealing that 65% of adults in the UK are eating out less in an attempt to reduce costs, we are confident the promotion will be a key sales driver for our retailers during August.”

Nisa retailers can emphasise the fantastic £9.55 saving to their budgeting customers with help from a summer-themed consumer leaflet, digital support, and a point of sale mini kit.

“The products included as part of the Big Deal are perfect for catering to the summer bank holiday weekend. However, as plans are often spontaneous due to the weather, retailers should expect an influx of shoppers as the long weekend draws closer,” Gomersal said.

Promotion ends on 30th August.

Nisa’s ‘Big Deal’ is back for the bank holiday and with shopper focus shifting increasingly towards value, it is expected to be a winner this weekend.

Featuring two British bank holiday favourites – burgers and beer – the latest deal saves Nisa shoppers more than 50% off the RRP. The offer is expected to be well received by customers looking for something special and cost-friendly over the long weekend.

Until Tuesday 10th May, Nisa shoppers can pick up a Co-op Beef Quarter Pounder Burgers 4-pack and a Budweiser 4-pack for just £3.50, offering a £4.45 saving off the RRP. And as a non-licensed alternative, Budweiser 0%, Coca-Cola, Diet Coke or Coca-Cola Zero 4-packs are available as part of the deal.

Darren Hamilton, Wholesale Category Controller at Nisa, said: “The early May bank holiday typically presents one of the first alfresco dining opportunities of the year and in true British fashion, we suspect many people will be wanting to bring out the barbeque regardless of the temperature.”

For those opting to celebrate, whether that be in indoors or out, the Big Deal is joined by more get-together friendly deals including 2 for £1.50 on Co-op Coleslaw and Co-op Potato Salad, Doritos 150g bags for £1.25, Beefeater Pink Strawberry 70cl for £15, Kopparberg Cherry 10x330ml for £10.50, and Casillero del Diablo Sauvignon Blanc 75cl for £6.75.

“A burger and a beer is a safe bet for any kind of gathering, whether that’s a games night in the living room or a garden get-together,” added Hamilton.

“We’re confident that our partners will see a boost in basket spend over the next couple of days thanks to the deal, which provides shoppers with a treat that won’t break the bank.”

Nisa’s consumer-facing digital channels are supporting partners by publishing animations for the Big Deal, and eye-catching in store point of sale has been provided to draw attention to the promotion.

Carlsberg expects earnings to grow faster than sales over the next five years as the Danish brewer expands in premium beers, no-alcohol brews, and other categories such as ready-to-drink cocktails and hard seltzer.

The company is forecasting an average annual increase in revenue of 3% to 5% between 2023 and 2027, Carlsberg said.

Ahead of issuing 2021 results, Carlsberg said 2022 will be a transition year.

It also said it plans to tap growth opportunities in the UK, France, Switzerland, China, India, and Vietnam.

The company said it will expand its Garage and Somersby brands as it explores non-beer categories, which also include cider and hard lemonade.

This year may suffer from a difficult comparison. The brewer has forecast operating profit would increase as much as 12% in 2021 after sales of its Tuborg and Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc brands surged in China, a key battleground market for brewers.

Launching its new five-year strategy, Carlsberg said: “Consumers are increasingly looking for beverages outside the beer category, such as cider, hard lemonade, hard seltzers, and ready-to-drink cocktails. We see attractive growth opportunities in several of these categories, leveraging brands such as Somersby and Garage.”

Last year Budweiser said it was speeding up its testing of new products, primarily for the China market, to keep pace with changing consumer tastes.

Energy drinks, seltzers, and non-alcoholic drinks are in its product pipeline.

“There are some consumer occasions and functional needs that we can answer with beer, but others we can better suit with other products,” the brewer said last year. “Chinese consumers are spoiled with choices, so we want to give more choices.”

Prosecco and pint taxes to fall, red wine to rise https://neighbourhoodretailer.com/prosecco-and-pint-taxes-to-fall-red-wine-to-rise/ Wed, 27 Oct 2021 15:22:37 +0000 https://neighbourhoodretailer.com/?p=18853 Taxes on sparkling wine, draught beer and cider are to be cut, but will rise for stronger drinks such as red wine following the Budget’s

Taxes on sparkling wine, draught beer and cider are to be cut, but will rise for stronger drinks such as red wine following the Budget’s shake-up of alcohol duty.

The new system, due to start in 2023, will mean higher duty for stronger alcohol, the chancellor said.

The duty premium on sparkling wines will end and the duty on draught beer and cider served in pubs will be cut.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that a planned increase in duty on spirits, wine, cider and beer  has been cancelled.

“To radically simplify the system, we are slashing the number of main duty rates from 15 to just six,” the chancellor said.

“Our new system will be designed around a common-sense principle: the stronger the drink, the higher the rate. This means that some drinks, like stronger red wines, fortified wines, or high-strength ‘white ciders’ will see a small increase in their rates because they are currently undertaxed given their strength.”

Mr Sunak said many lower alcohol drinks were “currently overtaxed”, adding: “Rose, fruit ciders, liqueurs, lower strength beers and wines – today’s changes mean they will pay less.”

In relation to sparkling wines, Mr Sunak said: “I’m going to end the irrational duty premium of 28% that they currently pay. Sparkling wines – wherever they are produced – will now pay the same duty as still wines of equivalent strength.”

In a move to help struggling pubs, Mr Sunak announced a new lower rate of duty for draught drinks, which he said would cut the cost of a pint by about three pence.

He said the “draught relief will cut duty by 5%” and “will apply to drinks served from draught containers over 40 litres”.

The chancellor said this would particularly benefit community pubs “who do 75% of their trade on draught”.

He also announced proposals for a new “small producer relief” to include small cidermakers and other producers making alcoholic drinks of less than 8.5% alcohol by volume (ABV).
