Nisa has revealed its final Big Deal of the summer and it features two Big Night In favourites – pizza and beer.

The new deal, which saves shoppers up to £9.55 off the RRP, landed in Nisa stores earlier this week and will be available right up until the end of the month.

It comprises two pizzas, either Co-op Stonebaked Margherita 320g or Co-op Stonebaked Pepperoni Pizza 327g – or one of each – and either Budweiser, 4x300ml, Bud Light, 4x300ml, or Budweiser 0%, 4x330ml, all for just £5. As a non-licensed alternative, a selection of Coca-Cola variants are also available.

Laura Gomersal, Head of Marketing at Nisa said: “Big Night In and other at home occasions continue to grow in popularity, as highlighted by the record breaking viewing figures from the recent Euro Women’s final, with shoppers cutting back on out of home spending due to economic uncertainty.

“Pizza and beer is one of those classic combinations that feels like a real treat and with research revealing that 65% of adults in the UK are eating out less in an attempt to reduce costs, we are confident the promotion will be a key sales driver for our retailers during August.”

Nisa retailers can emphasise the fantastic £9.55 saving to their budgeting customers with help from a summer-themed consumer leaflet, digital support, and a point of sale mini kit.

“The products included as part of the Big Deal are perfect for catering to the summer bank holiday weekend. However, as plans are often spontaneous due to the weather, retailers should expect an influx of shoppers as the long weekend draws closer,” Gomersal said.

Promotion ends on 30th August.

Food delivery giant Deliveroo has signed a recognition deal with the GMB trade union covering the company’s 90,000 self-employed riders.

The GMB said it was a “historic” agreement giving it rights to collective bargaining on pay, and consultation rights on benefits and other issues, including riders’ health, safety and wellbeing.

The union said it will also be able to represent individual riders who are GMB members in disputes.

The GMB said the agreement recognises that Deliveroo riders are self-employed, following a series of UK court judgments which have confirmed this status.

National officer Mick Rix said: “This deal is the first of its kind in the world.

“Tens of thousands of riders for one of the world’s largest online food delivery services will now be covered by a collective agreement that gives them a voice, including pay talks, guaranteed earnings, and representation in times of difficulty.

“Riders deserve respect for the work they do; and Deliveroo deserves praise for developing this innovative agreement with GMB – a blueprint for those working in the platform self-employed sector.

“This is a valuable contribution in making work better and to the future world of work.”

Will Shu, Deliveroo founder and chief executive said: “We are delighted to partner with the GMB in this first-of-its-kind voluntary agreement, giving self-employed riders flexibility, guaranteed earnings, representation and benefits.

“Deliveroo has long called for riders to have both flexibility and security and this innovative agreement is exactly the sort of partnership the on-demand economy should be based on.

“This voluntary partnership is based on a shared commitment between the GMB and Deliveroo to rider welfare and wellbeing. Together, we are focusing on what matters most to riders.”

TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “After GMB’s breakthrough agreement with Uber last year, this is another landmark agreement that will give Deliveroo riders a real voice at work.

“This GMB and Deliveroo deal will pave the way for improved workers’ rights.

“This is a sign of things to come. Unions are starting to win the fight against insecure work and won’t rest until platform companies across the gig economy agree to work with their staff on improving pay and conditions.

“We need the Government to play its part. UK employment and union law is still not fit for purpose and needs dragging into the 21st century.”

Glens of Antrim Crisps has secured a new contract to supply its full range of Hand Cooked Potato Crisps to Tesco’s 35 stores across Northern Ireland.

The deal is a major coup for the Cushendall-based food company, as it is the first time its top-quality branded range will be available on the shelves of a major supermarket in Northern Ireland.

Glens of Antrim already supplies its branded crisps to the independent retail and hospitality sectors in NI.  The company also produces own-label crisps for Tesco in the Republic of Ireland under the supermarket’s ‘Finest’ range.

In addition, Glens’ branded crisps are exported to key markets including Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea.

The Glens of Antrim Crisp division is part of the highly progressive multi-million pound Glens of Antrim Potato business, which was established in 1972 by the McKillops, a third-generation Co Antrim farming family.

Over the last 10 years the entrepreneurial family has explored a range of new product and market developments, culminating in an investment of £900,000 in its own potato crisp processing and packaging plant in 2015. A further spend of £500,000 is planned over the next four months.

Mary McKillop, Director, Glens of Antrim Crisps said: “The Northern Ireland market is highly discerning when it comes to potato crisp consumption, with product quality and taste being the two factors which differentiate one brand from another.  To address this, we have invested heavily in NPD, consumer research and market trends to ensure our range not only stands out on shelf but delivers on the palate.

“Added to this we are a NI-based business, with strong links to our farming community and are committed to sourcing locally. Today marks an important first step for Glens of Antrim Crisps and Tesco and we look forward to developing our partnership in the months ahead.”

Michael Crealey, Tesco Buying Manager for NI, added: “We’re proud to support local companies such as Glens of Antrim which is so well stablished within NI’s agri-food sector. The range now available in our Northern Ireland stores is a welcome addition to our crisp and snack offering, giving our customers even greater choice, quality and value.”

Musgrave MarketPlace, Ireland’s leading wholesale supplier to foodservice, retail, and SME businesses and Circle K, Ireland’s largest forecourt and convenience retailer, have announced a new five-year strategic partnership.

Under the terms of the partnership, Musgrave MarketPlace will supply the Circle K network of company-owned and franchise service stations.

The partnership is worth over €300 million to Musgrave MarketPlace and continues a 20-year relationship between Musgrave MarketPlace and Circle K (previously Shell, Esso, Topaz).

Circle K will supply fuel to 14 service stations owned and operated by Musgrave in the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland, with these forecourts rebranding to Circle K over time – bringing Circle K’s total store count on the island to 425.

Additionally, Circle K will supply fuel to the Musgrave MarketPlace fleet of delivery vehicles across the Island of Ireland.

As wholesale food and beverage suppliers, Musgrave MarketPlace will supply over 165 Circle K forecourts nationwide with a variety of product categories including grocery, beverages, catering, chill & frozen food, and impulse – a total of 2,500 food and beverage products. Musgrave MarketPlace will also supply fresh products such as salads, meats, pastries and sandwich fillings, alongside frozen products.

Local Irish suppliers

Musgrave MarketPlace has an extensive product range in all key food and beverage categories and is proud to support over 680 local Irish suppliers, with over 3,500 Irish products in its range. This continued partnership will also give a significant boost to local suppliers during these uncertain times, in line with the company’s commitment to supporting Irish.

Michael McCormack, Musgrave MarketPlace said: “We are delighted to continue our longstanding relationship with Circle K. After many successful years working together, we understand their business needs and are confident we can continue to provide a first-class range and service to Circle K forecourts nationwide.

“Our unrivalled product range, unmatched delivery options, and commitment to Irish produce and innovation provides the basis for a mutually successful partnership.

“As an Irish family-owned business with 145 years of experience, building long-term partnerships is important to us – indeed it’s one of our Musgrave values. Being reappointed, after a competitive tender process, is an endorsement of our values and approach to business.”

Gordon Lawlor, Managing Director of Circle K, said: “Alongside Circle K’s own extensive and high-quality product range, our ongoing partnership with Musgrave MarketPlace and access to its outstanding offering enables us to continue delivering a really compelling offering to our customers.

“We are also excited to be building on an already very strong partnership on the fuel side by expanding our fuel partnership to 14 service stations on both sides of the border and moving to become Musgrave’s preferred fuel supplier in Northern Ireland. These 14 new sites bring our total store count to 425, and we are confident that this partnership will provide opportunities for further growth in the coming years.

“We have enjoyed a hugely successful long-term partnership with Musgrave MarketPlace over the past 20 years. They have a deep understanding of our business and our commitment to innovation for the benefit of our customers.”
