WINNERS’ CIRCLE – GEE’S WINE SHOP

As the countdown to the NR 2023 Awards continue, we take a look back to our 2022 winners, who tell us how it felt to win a Neighbourhood Retailer Award and what it means to them, their team and their business.

The Off Licence of the Year title was awarded to Gee’s Wine Shop, based at Rossdowney Park in Derry-Londonderry.

The popular shop secured the award, beating off stiff competition after judges praised the “attractive store” for its “innovative and exceptional range”.

Judges added Gee’s offered “much more than expected”.

“Staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic and gave some really good recommendations,” they added.

The family-run store has enjoyed a wealth of support over the years and in mid-2021 moved to their brand-new store.

Following their award win, owner Eamonn Gee said he was delighted to have won.

“I’m delighted for all the staff, many of whom have been with me for years. It’s a recognition for them and their hard work as much as it is for me,” he said.

“Many of our customers have made the effort to come in and congratulate us, which is really nice to get. These are difficult times and this recognition gives everyone a lift.”

Gee’s Wine Shop has been cheering their success after taking the accolade of Off Licence of the Year at the 2022 Neighbourhood Retailer gala awards.

The Londonderry business won the title, crowning a successful period for the company, which included the opening of their new store on the Rossdowney Road in September last year.

The judges described the store as “attractive” while singling out its “innovative and exceptional range”.

There was also praise heaped on the staff at Gee’s Wine Shop, with the judge remarking they were “knowledgeable and enthusiastic”, while also giving some “really good recommendations”.

Independently judged by Spotcheck, the awards are judged to exacting standards over a three-month period.

Now in their 26th year, the Neighbourhood Retailer Awards reward excellence, recognise achievement, raise industry standards and reward entrepreneurial spirit.

Store owner, Eamonn Gee said he was “delighted to have won the award” and said he was also delighted for all the staff.

“It’s a recognition for them and their hard work, as much as it is for me,” he said.
