Of course, no great Halloween look would be complete without a Trick or Treat bag [99p] or a ghoulish Trick or Treat Arm [£3.99] to accessorise your little tot. This Halloween, Lidl Northern Ireland’s middle aisle has a terrifyingly great range of costumes available in ages 12 months to 10 years.

The pollen count may be soaring but Nisa’s independent retailers are already focusing on the festive season with orders submitted for the key Halloween and Christmas occasions.

This year’s extensive range combines specially selected must-stock branded lines with tasty Co-op own-brand products to help drive sales and ensure retailers have everything they need to inspire their shoppers and deliver the absolute best Halloween and Christmas.

To help Nisa retailers make the right choices, the full colour product catalogue includes an array of insights highlighting what to stock and when and how to maximise sales in store.

All top sellers have also been highlighted to assist when selecting the range with some top tips shared throughout from category experts.

The range was brought to life to a number of partners recently when they attended a Christmas Showcase event in Manchester and enjoyed the opportunity to taste test some of the top lines.

Stacey Brookes, of Chartwell Barns who operate two stores in North Yorkshire, said: “It was great to taste as well as see the products. There were some that I probably wouldn’t have ordered but having tasted them I will definitely be adding them to our order.”

And Abi Leftley who operates Leftley’s of Wells in Wells-next-the-Sea, on the North Norfolk coast, said: “There are some really exciting products which look and taste great and I think we will be adding quite a lot of them to our Christmas range in store this year.”

The Co-op own brand Christmas range for 2022 includes a good show of NPD with around a third of the collection made up of new products and the remainder consisting of existing favourites that have been re-configured and improved to make them even better tasting.

Jonny Lambert, wholesale category lead for Co-op, said: “Sharing the Christmas Showcase with Nisa partners is the perfect way to give first-hand experience of the range and it really helps them to make decisions about what they will stock in their stores.”

SuperValu and Centra raise £180k for Action Cancer https://neighbourhoodretailer.com/supervalu-and-centra-raise-180k-for-action-cancer/ Wed, 16 Mar 2022 10:12:45 +0000 https://neighbourhoodretailer.com/?p=20401  SuperValu and Centra retailers across Northern Ireland have raised a phenomenal £190,000 for their long-standing charity partner, Action Cancer, during what was another challenging year.

SuperValu and Centra retailers across Northern Ireland have raised a phenomenal £190,000 for their long-standing charity partner, Action Cancer, during what was another challenging year.

While the pandemic continued throughout 2021, the brands built on their fundraising successes from 2020 and created new opportunities to ensure Action Cancer and the life-saving services it offers, would be supported.

Desi Derby, Marketing Director for SuperValu and Centra NI, commented on the fundraising achievement: “While we all hoped the pandemic would be behind us in 2021, it continued to present challenges – however we came up with new and innovative ways to enable our retailers to raise money and continue to support Action Cancer, which is a charity close to their hearts.

“To achieve this significant amount truly demonstrates the unrivalled commitment from our retailers and colleagues for this charity, and of course the invaluable support of our shoppers who have donated so generously throughout the year.”

The initiatives included a May Day fundraising drive and call for support to keep Action Cancer’s Big Bus moving. This was followed by a challenge for colleagues from Musgrave-owned SuperValu and Centra stores to walk a total distance of 18,000km, which was exceeded by 10,000km and raised an incredible £25,000.

An International Coffee Day initiative saw the retailers pledge 50p from the sale of each Frank and Honest coffee purchased over three days to the charity. It was a resounding success, raising over £18,000 and was closely followed by, for the second year running, a Halloween project in partnership with local Armagh supplier Gilfresh, which saw the brands donate 50p from each pumpkin sale.

Centra was delighted to welcome back Run Together in Ormeau Park in October, which saw 1,000 people participate and raised close to £18,000 while SuperValu sponsored Action Cancer’s Breast Foot Forward which once again returned to Belfast City Hall in the same month.

Meanwhile stores across the country took part in many activities of their own including sponsored head shaves, abseils and raffles.

Gareth Kirk, CEO of Action Cancer, said: “The support of SuperValu and Centra for Action Cancer is remarkable, without which we could not in 2021 have continued to provide our vital prevention and life-saving services onboard our new mobile clinic the BIG BUS. The financial support and commitment received from SuperValu and Centra, in what was undoubtedly a very challenging year for everyone, not only ensured the wheels of the Big Bus kept rolling across Northern Ireland but that nearly 3,000 local people could avail of a critical health check or a mammogram for the detection of breast cancer.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to the retailers and staff for their enthusiasm, energy and commitment, and to SuperValu and Centra NI customers, who altogether make a crucial contribution to the lives of so many.”

Nisa is supporting its retailer partners this Halloween with a raft of scarily good seasonal promotions to help shoppers celebrate the eerie event.

With research revealing that Halloween is the fourth largest retail event in the UK, Nisa’s promotional event caters to a range of shopper missions from those looking for sweet treats to those on the hunt for a deadly deal to accompany a more intimate fright night at home.

The event, which is available in stores now, features freakily-good deals on a raft of sweet and savoury treats including Cadbury Goo Heads Cake Bars 5pk and McVitie’s Funny Bones Cake Bars 7pk for £1 each, Mr Kipling Fiendish Fancies 8pk and Toffee Apple Pies 8pk for £1.50 each, Fanta 2ltr bottles for £1.50, and Pringles 200g tubs for £1.55 – that’s half price.

And shoppers can keep the trick-or-treaters at bay with Swizzels’ Sweet Surprise Tubs for two for £5, Fruit-tella Duo Stix for £1 and Maltesers Fun Size Packs for £1.50.

“Last year the UK found itself in regional lockdowns around Halloween and consumers were advised that they should avoid trick or treating to help stop the spread of Covid-19. Because of this long wait children up and down the country will be itching to get dressed up and pay a visit to their neighbours on the hunt for sweet treats,” said Nisa’s Seasonal Manager, Hannah Goodwin.

To cater for those opting for a quieter night in with a scary movie, the popular two Co-op pizzas (Big Five Cheese Classic Crust Pizza and Co-op Meat Meltdown Classic Crust Pizza) and two sides (Deep Garlic Flatbreads and Co-op Family Chocolate Fudge Pudding) deal is also available for just £10.

Nisa’s Halloween campaign is supported with in-store point of sale – including window clings and bunting – and is featured on consumer leaflets, as well as on the Nisa Locally website. On the website, shoppers will also be able to find hacks on creating Halloween decorations and inspiration for a scare-filled party.

Promotions manager, Laura O’Hearne said: “Halloween falls on a Sunday this year meaning shoppers are likely to celebrate over the entire weekend. And the event isn’t only about trick-or-treating. Adult parties or even nights in front of the television are also extremely popular – especially as some consumers still choose to avoid unnecessary social contact due to the pandemic.

“Because of this we are encouraging partners to keep a mixture of products on the shelves right up until the big day to cater for a wide range of shopper missions.”

Research shows that almost half of Halloween shoppers purchase more than they anticipated when in-store, so to capitalise on impulse purchases Nisa is also providing partners with a range of Halloween accessories including a Co-op Pumpkin Carving Set at £1.39*, Co-op Pumpkin and Ghost Garlands at £1* each and Co-op Halloween Buckets at £1.25*.
