The mince pies- only available at SPAR NI stores – were also named joint winner in the ‘Best Classic Mince Pie’ category in the Olive magazine Christmas supermarket awards 2021.

These two highly prestigious award wins are a testament to the exceptional quality and taste of SPAR’s own label Luxury All Butter Mince Pie, the company says.

At only £2 for a pack of six, the SPAR Luxury All Butter Mince Pies will be a mainstay of shopping baskets this Christmas.

 On winning the two accolades, Myles Mersh, SPAR UK Brand Manager, said: “This year our own label SPAR Luxury All Butter Mince Pie is a multi-award winner, winning for two consecutive years ‘Best Classic Mince Pie’ in the BBC Good Food Christmas Taste Awards and for the first time joint winner of the ‘Best Classic Mince Pie’ category in the olive Christmas supermarket awards. This cements SPAR as the go-to retailer for mince pies this year, the foremost Christmas treat.”

BBC Good Food Christmas Taste Award said: “Our judges were impressed by the festive star design, and despite the open top, the mincemeat is golden and not burned. The deep-filled pies have buttery pastry and jammy, well-spiced mincemeat with citrussy notes.”

The Olive Christmas supermarket award said: “Our judges loved the open top star design of these pies. The thick pastry was well baked, whilst the filling is full of plump fruit and well balanced between sharp and sweet flavours.”

SPAR will support the award wins on pack, with POS in store and digitally on all social channels.

SPAR Luxury All Butter Mince Pies were available in participating SPAR stores across the UK from 4 October 2021.

The judges said: “These have a lovely golden colour and crumbly, buttery pastry. The filling is sweet and jammy, with nice big chunks of plump, soaked fruit and a good hit of citrus from the candied peel.”

The accolade follows SPAR NI’s own brand Desserts by The Kitchen picking up six Great Taste Awards in the past two years. The sticky toffee pudding and bread and butter pudding were awarded two stars, with the chocolate sponge pudding, Bramley apple crumble and the rhubarb crumble awarded one star in 2019. This year, the chocolate brownie pudding picked up one star.
