]]> Works are under way at The Junction retail park in Antrim in preparation for a £10 million redevelopment for a new Dobbies Garden Centre, due to open next year.

Asset owner Lotus said the relocation of Mountain Warehouse and The Works marks the beginning of the restructuring programme.

Mountain Warehouse, which last year bought surf brand Animal, has opened a new dual store at the site, creating four jobs.

Discount book and stationary retailer, The Works is also due to open a refreshed store at the scheme on Thursday (June 16) creating eight jobs.

Centre director Chris Flynn said the relocation and rejuvenation of the two stores represents a £400,000 investment.

“Mountain Warehouse has been a long-time tenant of The Junction and we are excited that they have expanded their offering bringing an established and well-loved brand to the scheme,” he said.

“The new dual store with Animal will benefit from being located en route from Belfast to the surfing hotspots of the north coast and with a host of outdoor and lifestyle brands on offer at the Junction, it has become a destination for the adventurer.

“This year has already seen growth throughout the scheme with many of our tenants, including The Works, refreshing their stores and taking up new locations within the scheme. We are anticipating more exciting news in the coming months as we prepare to welcome Dobbies next year.”

Mountain Warehouse founder, Mark Neale said: “We’re proud to have re-opened our Mountain Warehouse Antrim store at The Junction this summer, having added surf lifestyle brand Animal to the offering. We’re excited to share our passion for adventure and great value outdoor gear for all the family with this community.”

]]> The Works has been forced to shut some shops temporarily and suspend new stock deliveries following a cyber-attack.

The retailer said five of its 526 shops have been closed since last week after hackers gained access to its computer systems and caused issues with its tills. Customers are experiencing longer delivery times for online orders as a result.

The company said that no shoppers’ payment details had been compromised.

In a statement, The Works said: “Customers can continue to shop safely at The Works, both in store and online.”

It pointed out that all debit and credit card payments are processed outside of its own systems, although it is still working out whether or not customers’ personal data may have been affected.

The toys and crafts shop said that it made immediate changes to further strengthen its security position, as well as taking on cyber security experts who are investigating the attack.

It was made aware of the hack last week, which has been described as a “ransomware” attack, although the hackers are understood not to have made any demands for cash.

The firm disabled all access to its systems, including email, as a precautionary measure once it found out.

It is working to reopen the five shops as soon as it can, while store deliveries are expected to resume “imminently”, according to its statement.

It also said that normal online deliveries would be reintroduced gradually, and that it did not expect the attack to have a severe impact on its forecasts for sales or its financial position this year.
