Lidl Northern Ireland shoppers have raised more than £80,000 in support of the retailer’s charity partner NSPCC Northern Ireland, with its annual festive fundraiser, Christmas Trolley Dash.

Now in its 10th year, the fundraising initiative received phenomenal widespread support from generous customers across Lidl Northern Ireland’s 41 stores nationwide.

For two weeks in November, Trolley Dash tickets are sold in Lidl Northern Ireland stores for just £1 each. Just in time for Christmas, one lucky customer from each Lidl Northern Ireland store – a total of 41 winners across the region – win a supermarket sweep-style dash around their local store to grab as much of their Christmas shopping as possible in two minutes.

This year, ticket sales were donated to Lidl Northern Ireland’s charity partner, NSPCC, whose mission is to prevent abuse, help rebuild children’s lives and support families. NSPCC makes life better for children in Northern Ireland by influencing public policy, legislation and practice through local evidence-based research and services.

‘GENEROSITY OF CUSTOMERS’

Since the partnership began in 2017, Lidl Northern Ireland has raised more than £900,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland and given away trolley loads of Christmas groceries to thousands of lucky winners.

Speaking about the success of this year’s Trolley Dash, Ivan Ryan, Regional Managing Director, Lidl Northern Ireland said: “Thanks to the continued support of our fantastic shoppers and employees across Northern Ireland, we are delighted to have raised over £80,000 for our charity partner NSPCC Northern Ireland.

“Everyone at Lidl Northern Ireland is overwhelmed by the generosity from our customers, especially in these challenging times, who are contributing to such an important cause that will have a real impact on future generations. Congratulations to all the lucky winners across our 41 stores in Northern Ireland and we wish you the best of luck in your Trolley Dash.”

‘HUGE DIFFERENCE’

Commenting on the importance of Lidl Northern Ireland’s Trolley Dash, Stefani Mearns, NSPCC Supporter Fundraising Manager said: “On behalf of the team at NSPCC Northern Ireland, I would like thank Lidl Northern Ireland for its continued support and for the brilliant opportunity to be part of the Christmas Trolley Dash initiative again this year. The partnership which we have developed with Lidl Northern Ireland over the past six years has been groundbreaking for our charity and the generosity of its staff and customers never fails to impress us each year.

“We are beyond grateful for the support and opportunity as the significant funds raised from Trolley Dash will go a long way in making a huge difference to the children and families of Northern Ireland when support is greatly needed.

“NSPCC is here to support all children who need to make use of our specialist services – or simply, someone to talk to. With the help of Lidl Northern Ireland, all of this is possible.”

All winners will be contacted directly by their local store and invited to take part in the Trolley Dash at their Lidl Northern Ireland store before stores open. This gives winners a clean run at the aisles to grab as many items on their Christmas shopping list as they can. Dashes will take place on Saturday, 16th December 2023.

A local couple are lighting up their home with a Christmas bonanza display of lights and decorations as they team up with local retailer Lidl Northern Ireland to help raise more than £7,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland.

Dermot Bradley and his partner Gary Bailie have been decorating their home in Derry with spectacular festive displays for almost a decade and hope to smash their previous fundraising record as they reveal their dazzling Christmas light display for the first time at their brand new home.

Having recently moved to the Brunswick Road area of the city, Dermot and Gary have once again decorated their house from top to bottom in fantastic Christmas lights and decorations with help from local retailer, Lidl Northern Ireland.

Partnering with the retailer as part of its Christmas Lights for Charity campaign, Dermot and Gary are inviting visitors from near and far to enjoy this impressive display to raise vital funds for Lidl Northern Ireland’s charity partner NSPCC Northern Ireland by making a donation to the charity buckets located outside their home.

Christmas enthusiast Dermot Bradley said: “We are delighted to partner with Lidl Northern Ireland this year to raise money for NSPCC Northern Ireland. Decorating our home at Christmas just started out as a bit of fun for us, but it has turned into an incredible fundraising initiative which we have now been facilitating for almost a decade.

“We just love Christmas and are thrilled that locals and people from further afield enjoy coming to see our display. We’ve added a few new pieces this year to add a bit of extra sparkle, so we’re hoping that more people than ever come by to visit us and donate to NSPCC Northern Ireland.”

The couple have previously raised funds for local cancer charity ‘Paul’s Campaign’ and Foyle Search and Rescue. They laugh off any competition or ‘friendly rivalry’ with residents at nearby Racecourse Drive – now branded Christmas Drive – who have also been decorating their street to raise funds for charity.

“We have friends who live there actually. We are all raising money for a good cause and people should visit us all to get in the festive spirit, so we can all come together to raise much needed funds for great causes,” said Mr Bradley.

“If you’re in the area, or travelling up to see Derry’s dazzling displays, don’t forget to visit us on Brunswick Road and help us reach our fundraising target to support NSPCC Northern Ireland’s amazing work at a crucial time of year.”

In a partnership spanning four years, Lidl Northern Ireland has raised over £500,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland, whose mission is to fight for every childhood. “We’re thrilled to light up Christmas this year with a fantastic new initiative and to partner with Dermot and Gary who have created a truly spectacular display at their home. With 100% of donations going directly to the charity, this brand-new initiative couldn’t come at a better time, when NSPCC Northern Ireland need funds most as we approach the festive season.

“Christmas can be an incredibly difficult time for young people suffering abuse and neglect, but NSPCC’s Childline services are there to support them 24/7, even on Christmas Day.

“We are constantly in awe of the generosity of the local community in supporting Lidl Northern Ireland’s charity fundraising initiatives and we’re thrilled to invite them to experience Dermot and Gary’s incredible display this Christmas. It’s a real feast for the eyes and the perfect way to get into the festive spirit! We wish all of our customers and team a very safe and merry Christmas.”

Lidl Northern Ireland has warned it’s the last chance for shoppers to win their entire Christmas shop for £1 in the retailer’s hugely popular charity dash for NSPCC Northern Ireland as ticket sales close on Sunday 28th November.

Tickets went on sale in all 41 Lidl Northern Ireland stores across the region on Saturday 13th November for two weeks only, with one lucky customer chosen per store to participate in the annual Trolley Dash. Winners will be challenged to take part in a ‘Supermarket Sweep’ style dash around their local store to collect as much Christmas shopping as they possibly can in just two minutes.

With 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales donated to Lidl Northern Ireland’s charity partner, NSPCC Northern Ireland, Trolley Dash is the retailer’s flagship charity fundraising event.

Now in its seventh year, the hugely popular fundraising initiative is set to be the biggest year yet according to Lidl Northern Ireland’s Head of Sales Operations, Gordon Cruikshanks.

“With 100% of ticket sales going directly to charity partner NSPCC Northern Ireland, Trolley Dash is our flagship charity fundraising event, raising around £100,000 each year and providing a major boost to NSPCC at a critical time of the year,” he said.

“It’s also the event that we as a team look forward to most as shoppers try to snap up all their favourite festive food in a frantic two-minute dash around the store.

“Christmas can be a difficult time for many and we are proud to not only support NSPCC Northern Ireland, but also to gift Christmas shopping to 41 families across the region and helping to lighten the load at this time of year when money can be tight. We’re anticipating a big interest in Trolley Dash this year so I would encourage everyone to purchase a ticket in their local Lidl store to be in with a chance of winning. Good luck to all entrants!”

In a partnership spanning four years, Lidl Northern Ireland has raised over £500,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland, whose mission is to fight for every childhood, delivering services for children and operating Childline bases in Belfast and Foyle.  NSPCC Northern Ireland supports children across the region and works to prevent abuse, help rebuild children’s lives and support families.

Trolley Dash tickets will be available to purchase for just £1 in all 41 Lidl Northern Ireland stores across the region until Sunday 28th November.

In previous years, the total of the goods won in the dashes has been well in the hundreds with customers carefully planning out their route to maximise their winnings. Customers may purchase as many tickets as they like in support of NSPCC Northern Ireland and to be in with a greater chance of winning.

Trolley dash

Joanne McMaster, Supporter Fundraising Manager, NSPCC Northern Ireland said: “NSPCC is delighted to be part of the Trolley Dash again this year. Over the years we’ve seen the benefits of donations made by the exceptionally generous Lidl Northern Ireland customers at a time of year when funds are greatly needed.

“Christmas can be an incredibly difficult time of year for children who are suffering abuse and neglect and being at home for a long stretch can be a nightmare for them. Our Childline service is there 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and even on Christmas Day, staffed by our keyworker counsellors and supervisors.

“When a young person needs help, Childline can be a lifeline so when a child feels like they have nowhere else to turn, it’s vital that we’re here, ready to listen. The funds raised by Lidl Northern Ireland really do help enormously to make this possible.”

All 41 winners will be contacted on Wednesday 1st December and invited to take part in the Lidl Trolley Dash at their local Lidl store on Saturday 11th December at 7:45am, before store opening. This gives the participants a clean run at the aisles to grab as many items on their Christmas shopping list as they can.

Lidl Northern Ireland is empowering charity partner, NSPCC Northern Ireland, with a fundraising boost of £100,000 to mark Childhood Day on Friday 11 June 2021. Childhood Day is the charity’s annual landmark day where people across Northern Ireland are encouraged to come together, play and keep children safe.

Now in its fourth year, the partnership has delivered fundraising of more than £400,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland through a range of activities and initiatives driven by Lidl Northern Ireland staff members across 41 stores and supported locally by Lidl’s valued customers. The additional £100,000 boost will take the retailer’s fundraising total to more than half a million.

To coincide with Childhood Day on Friday 11 June, Lidl Northern Ireland is organising a series of fun Childhood Day events across all 41 stores region wide from Friday 11 – Sunday 13 June. Highlights include hosting a special in-store Super Hero Day where staff and shoppers will be encouraged to don their favourite super hero costume to raise vital funds for NSPCC Northern Ireland.

Corporate social responsibility

Angela Connan, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Lidl Northern Ireland said “At Lidl Northern Ireland, we are invested in our local communities and we are very proud of our long term partnership with NSPCC Northern Ireland, helping to support this vital charity to reach children in need right across the region.

As part of our partnership, we’ve been instrumental in helping to pilot and promote the Childhood Day initiative throughout the region since it was first implemented in 2018 and it has been fantastic to see how it is now being rolled out across the UK.

This year, we’re thrilled to give an additional £100,000 funding boost to the charity to mark Childhood Day and for our staff and customers to get involved in celebrating the milestone day with some very special family-friendly in-store activity taking place all weekend.

Our staff and customers have been wonderfully supportive of our charity fundraising initiatives and have helped us raise a staggering £500,000 in funds for NSPCC Northern Ireland to carry on their fantastic work safeguarding and protecting children across the region who rely on their services. We look forward to welcoming shoppers to our stores this weekend for some fun activities in the spirit of Childhood Day.”

Valued partner

Joanne McMaster, Supporter Fundraising Manager at NSPCC commented “Lidl Northern Ireland is such a valued partner and a fantastic long-term supporter of our work to protect children across Northern Ireland. We are so grateful to the team for this further extension of their incredible support and for their work in supporting us on our annual Childhood Day campaign to help raise even more funds.

Childhood Day is a real highlight in the calendar for us as play is such an important part of a happy and healthy childhood.  After a difficult year, we could all do with a bit more play in our lives and I look forward to seeing Lidl Northern Ireland shoppers enjoy all of the fun activities planned at their local Lidl store over the weekend.

Every pound really does make a difference and this generous contribution from Lidl Northern Ireland could help NSPCC Helpline to support 10,000 adults who are concerned about a child and could also enable Childline to be there for 12,500 children when they have no-where else to turn, 365 days a year.”
