Lidl Northern Ireland is empowering charity partner, NSPCC Northern Ireland, with a fundraising boost of £100,000 to mark Childhood Day on Friday 11 June 2021. Childhood Day is the charity’s annual landmark day where people across Northern Ireland are encouraged to come together, play and keep children safe.

Now in its fourth year, the partnership has delivered fundraising of more than £400,000 for NSPCC Northern Ireland through a range of activities and initiatives driven by Lidl Northern Ireland staff members across 41 stores and supported locally by Lidl’s valued customers. The additional £100,000 boost will take the retailer’s fundraising total to more than half a million.

To coincide with Childhood Day on Friday 11 June, Lidl Northern Ireland is organising a series of fun Childhood Day events across all 41 stores region wide from Friday 11 – Sunday 13 June. Highlights include hosting a special in-store Super Hero Day where staff and shoppers will be encouraged to don their favourite super hero costume to raise vital funds for NSPCC Northern Ireland.

Corporate social responsibility

Angela Connan, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Lidl Northern Ireland said “At Lidl Northern Ireland, we are invested in our local communities and we are very proud of our long term partnership with NSPCC Northern Ireland, helping to support this vital charity to reach children in need right across the region.

As part of our partnership, we’ve been instrumental in helping to pilot and promote the Childhood Day initiative throughout the region since it was first implemented in 2018 and it has been fantastic to see how it is now being rolled out across the UK.

This year, we’re thrilled to give an additional £100,000 funding boost to the charity to mark Childhood Day and for our staff and customers to get involved in celebrating the milestone day with some very special family-friendly in-store activity taking place all weekend.

Our staff and customers have been wonderfully supportive of our charity fundraising initiatives and have helped us raise a staggering £500,000 in funds for NSPCC Northern Ireland to carry on their fantastic work safeguarding and protecting children across the region who rely on their services. We look forward to welcoming shoppers to our stores this weekend for some fun activities in the spirit of Childhood Day.”

Valued partner

Joanne McMaster, Supporter Fundraising Manager at NSPCC commented “Lidl Northern Ireland is such a valued partner and a fantastic long-term supporter of our work to protect children across Northern Ireland. We are so grateful to the team for this further extension of their incredible support and for their work in supporting us on our annual Childhood Day campaign to help raise even more funds.

Childhood Day is a real highlight in the calendar for us as play is such an important part of a happy and healthy childhood.  After a difficult year, we could all do with a bit more play in our lives and I look forward to seeing Lidl Northern Ireland shoppers enjoy all of the fun activities planned at their local Lidl store over the weekend.

Every pound really does make a difference and this generous contribution from Lidl Northern Ireland could help NSPCC Helpline to support 10,000 adults who are concerned about a child and could also enable Childline to be there for 12,500 children when they have no-where else to turn, 365 days a year.”
