SuperValu Ballymoney in running for global award

SuperValu Ballymoney has been shortlisted in the global finals of a leading employer standards awards.

The Ballymoney store is the only retailer in the finals of the Investors in People Awards (IIP), after becoming Northern Ireland’s first Gold accredited retailer in 2015.

Store manager Ian Elliott, who is behind the achievement, also holds the UK record for the number of new businesses taken through the accreditation process, with a total of seven IIP certificates.

Now SuperValu Ballymoney has been named as a leader in people management practice globally, having been shortlisted in the Best Newcomer (up to 249 employees) category.

The Awards, which received over 300 entries internationally, celebrates the best people management practices amongst accredited businesses.

Winners are announced at a spectacular awards ceremony and dinner on 29 June 2016 at Old Billingsgate, London.

There are a range of awards categories, from Excellence in Leadership and Management, to Excellence in Social Responsibility, Leader of the Year, and Best Newcomer. The Awards provide the opportunity to benchmark against high performing organisations globally.

Ian Elliott, who has managed the shop since 2013 and was last year’s Neighbourhood Retailer Award’s Store Manager of the Year, said: “It is a privilege to be shortlisted for this award; a clear indication of the dedication and hard work the team has invested in the business.”

Selecting the local store as a finalist, the judges said: “SuperValu Ballymoney has to be commended for the implementation and impact achieved over the last few years, using the IIP framework to turn around an underperforming store and developing ambition to become the best local retailer in Northern Ireland.

“A massive change management programme has been implemented which has included the involvement of all staff and ultimately been a success.  The use of good planning and people management processes fundamental to IIP have been used as the drivers for this change.”
