Young entrepreneurs to showcase nouvelle cuisine

Some 50 start-ups by NI young entrepreneurs will be showcasing their culinary creations and other products in St George’s Market next week.

Local charity Young Enterprise and Belfast City Council are working together to give the local business boffins their biggest ever break at the ‘Big Market’ event on Wednesday December 2 from 10am to 2pm.

Live entertainment and popular food traders will be supporting the 16 to 25 year olds as they try to sell their wares in the legendary trading ground.

The event was launched this week by Young Enterprise’s latest ambassador, David Meade, who has taken on the role to show his support for the young entrepreneurial talent being developed locally by the charity.

Carol Fitzsimons, chief executive of Young Enterprise NI, said: “Each year, Young Enterprise supports more than 3,500 young people start businesses across Northern Ireland.

“The Big Market will be a fantastic opportunity for these young people to gain experience in trading in a live market environment, whilst developing their skills and confidence for a successful future in life and in work.”

Councillor Deirdre Hargey, chair of Belfast City Council’s City Growth and Regeneration Committee, added: “For many this will be their first trading experience but for all it will be an exciting day of opportunity and development that will hopefully inspire our future entrepreneurs to take that next step towards setting up their own business.”
