A charity partnership by Allied Bakeries will see the firm provide 15,000 baked goods to an organisation helping vulnerable people in Belfast.

The bakery firm is behind some of NI’s best known bread brands – Kingsmill and Sunblest. It will now support one of Northern Ireland’s most popular charities: SOS NI.

The organisation provides vulnerable people in Northern Ireland with night time support services, a food programme, and a schools education and empowerment programme.

As part of the partnership with SOS NI, Allied Bakeries will supply their weekly bread requirements free of charge.

Some 9,360 of Northern Ireland’s favourite pancakes*, 3,120 muffins and 1,820 loaves of bread will be baked and donated by Allied throughout the year.

From September 2014 to 2015, the SOS NI team interacted with around 37,000 members of the public with the help of their bright yellow buses and enthusiastic volunteers.

The news comes after Allied Bakeries donated 3,000 extra pancakes to support the ‘Pancakes for Medics’ fundraising initiative where large companies like HP Belfast, George Best Belfast City Airport, and Ulster Bank were challenged to hold Pancake Day events to raise funds.

In its third year, the ‘Pancakes for Medics’ scheme is expected to raise over £2,000 with all proceeds going directly towards SOS NI medical services.

Elva O’Connor, Senior Brand Manager, Allied Bakeries, said: “We at Allied Bakeries believe greatly in giving back to the community and are thrilled to be involved with such a worthy cause such as SOS NI.

“As a Belfast-based bakery we believe we have a responsibility to support activities that engage with the local communities in which our business operates so we are delighted to support such fantastic charity as SOS NI, we applaud their fantastic work.”

Joe Hyland MBE, Chief Executive SOS NI added: “We are so grateful to Allied Bakeries, the bread they donate each week enables us to help those that need it most.

“We are passionate about working in partnership to help anyone who is in need on the streets of Belfast. With Allied Bakeries’ help we are now able to reach out to more vulnerable people than ever before and we couldn’t do it without their continued support.”
