East Belfast shop targeted in weekend armed robbery

Cash was stolen and a female staff member left shaken after an armed robbery in east Belfast at the weekend.

At approximately 10.15pm on Sunday 20th July it was reported that two men entered a shop on the Ballygowan Road, one of whom was armed with a wooden mallet.

They made off with a sum of cash from the tills, leaving the female member of staff shaken, but thankfully physically unharmed.

Both suspects are described as being of heavy build, with one reported to be wearing a blue hooded top and shorts, white socks and black sliders and carrying a green shopping bag, while the second suspect was described as wearing a grey hooded tracksuit with white socks and no shoes.

Detective Sergeant McCallum said the police believe the suspects both approached from and left in the direction of Brentwood Park.

“We would appeal to anyone who saw anything, or who captured CCTV or dash-cam footage in the area at the relevant time to contact 101, quoting reference number 1543 of 20/07/25.”
