Masked man ‘armed with knife’ targeted south Belfast off licence
Investigations are underway after a masked man armed with a knife targeted an off licence in south Belfast at the weekend.
The incident took place in the Sandy Row area on Sunday 24th August.
It was reported shortly before 6.55pm that a masked man entered an off licence in the area armed with a knife. He demanded money from the till and made off with a sum of money towards the Rowland Way area.
Two male members of staff who were inside the premises were left shaken following the incident but thankfully were not injured.
Detective Sergeant Kitchen said the suspect is described as 5ft 7” in height, of heavy build and wearing a scarf over his face. He was wearing a dark navy coloured jacket with a hood up and tracksuit bottoms.
“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with information in relation to the incident, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1473 24/08/25,” added Detective Sergeant Kitchen.
This incident was one of two which occurred on Sunday 24th August as police investigate a second robbery at a shop in Belfast city centre.
At approximately 7.10pm it was reported that a man entered commercial premises on Chicester Street brandishing a needle and demanded a female staff member open the till.
The suspect reportedly took a sum of cash and left the scene, making off in the direction of Upper Arthur Street.
Detective Sergeant Kitchen added the suspect in this incident was described as approximately 5ft 5” tall and dressed in a grey tracksuit. The reference number for this incident is 1454 24/08/25.
