Springfield Road store targeted in two robberies within same week
A west Belfast store has been targeted twice in the past week, with staff threatened and verbally abused during the incidents.
EUROSPAR Springfield Road, owned by The Wall Group, has been robbed on two separate occasions with owner, Gavan Wall describing the situation as a devastating blow to the business.
Both incidents allegedly occurred in the early hours of the morning and Gavan told NR he believes the same individual is involved in both robberies.
“We were robbed for the second time in a week by the same guy at EUROSPAR Springfield Road,” said Gavan.
“He was wielding a knife on the second occasion, and he got away with a huge amount of stock cigarettes.
“This is a devastating blow to us as a business and critically to the staff who were on the receiving end of the robberies when they were abused and subject to threats and a knife.
“The Wall Group has invested massively developing this store since we purchased it in September 2025 and it only takes a few to destroy everything you’re trying to deliver for the communities we serve.
HEARTBREAKING
“Hopefully the PSNI, which has been very responsive, will be able to apprehend the perpetrator to assuage concerns of staff who are currently worried about their safety when coming to work. It’s heartbreaking,” added Gavan.
Gavan and his wife, Helen relaunched the store a few months ago following an investment of £1 million. Committed to providing fresh, modern retail experiences for their customers, The Wall Group prides itself on looking out for their customers, investing in their stores and injecting new life to its communities.
They are hoping to begin a second phase of redevelopment at the site, with a £2 million investment in the planning for the forecourt and external amenity of the store.
In an appeal, police said the second incident occurred shortly after 2am on Monday 26th October, when a man entered the shop wearing a long black coat and face covering.
After making his way behind the tills, he took over £1000 worth of tobacco pouches before producing a knife when challenged by a staff member. He subsequently left and travelled up the Springfield Road.
Police enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone who saw something suspicious or has information, is asked to contact them using their witness appeal form or call 101 quoting reference 83 of 26/10/26.
