Belfast retailers flooded following endless summer downpours
Retailers hit by heavy rains and floods - sandbags piled up to stop the rains pouring in

Belfast city centre was hit by the ‘worst flooding in years’ – leaving many business owners left counting cost after stores are engulfed by heavy rain. At one point people had to wade ankle-deep water. Vehicles at the side entrance of CastleCourt were left sitting in water as deep as six inches. One shopkeeper told the Belfast Telegraph ‘the scene was like the River Lagan sweeping down the street.’ Water was bubbling up through manholes causing misery for many retailers.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain remains in place since last week.

Small border towns such as Garrison and Belleek were also badly hit.

For some retailers, thousands of pounds worth of stock was ruined.

The water was knee-deep in parts of Belfast.
