Bread good deal – Hovis strike ends
Hovis Bakers return to work from 25th May after 11 day strike

Hovis workers at Belfast’s Apollo Road bakery have called off their 11 day strike – with ‘not one loaf baked in twelve days’ at the site. Unite says its members voted with a majority of 79 percent to accept the latest increased pay offer from management.

The pay deal includes an eight per cent increase over two years, with the first increase backdated to January 2021. The deal also includes an industrial relations audit conducted by the Labour Relations Agency to address wider workforce issues of concern.

Retailer shelves were left bare of Hovis bread as well as a variety of bread products made at the site, including bagels and pancakes. Workers return to production lines from Tuesday May 25 at 6am.
