A “fantastic store” providing “exceptional” meat to its customers secured the Butcher of the Year Award for Jacksons Butchers of Ballynure.

John and Lynda Jackson took home the top prize in their category at the recent Neighbourhood Retailer Awards and described their win as a “fantastic achievement”.

“It is a testament to my hardworking and dedicated team that I have, which I’m extremely grateful for,” said John.

“We are a small business located in a rural village within Northern Ireland, but our customers come from all over Northern Ireland to shop with us here, which that alone is incredible.”

Judges for the Butcher of the Year category described Jacksons Butchers as a “fantastic store”.

“The range was extensive, and quality of the meat was exceptional. Staff were professional, engaging and keen to give information and advice,” noted the judges.

Independently judged by Spotcheck, the awards are judged to exacting standards over a three-month period.

Now in their 26th year, the Neighbourhood Retailer Awards reward excellence, recognise achievement, raise industry standards and reward entrepreneurial spirit.

Speaking after the gala awards night, John said: “Winning this award is proof of that and has also given us a real sense of accomplishment that we are doing a great job and that our customers feel the same way.

“At the end of the day, we don’t want to be the biggest, we simply want to be the best!”
