Centra Windmill retailer takes on ‘MizMal’ cycle challenge for charity

CENTRA Bangor Windmill retailer, Paul McLarnon, is preparing to take on the ‘MizMal’ cycle challenge for local eating disorder charity, CARED NI.

Paul, along with son Ricky and three team mates, are building up some peddle power to cycle the length of Ireland over six days from Mizen Head to Malin Head. The challenge will raise much needed funds for CARED NI (Caring About Recovery from Eating Disorders), a charity Paul’s family co-founded to raise awareness about eating disorders in Northern Ireland.

The group, which includes two team supports, will be hitting the roads from Mizen Head, Co. Cork, on Sunday 1st May as they set off on the 600 mile journey through Killarney, Ennis, Galway, Westport and Donegal Town before arriving in Malin Head, Co. Donegal, on Friday 6th May.

The charity was created after Paul’s daughter, Debbie Howard, suffered from a serious form of anorexia and had to travel to England to receive life-saving treatment. CARED NI provides support and advice including education, skills and techniques, to parents and carers who have a loved one suffering from an eating disorder.

Speaking of the cycle challenge, Paul said, “We have been building up to this for a number of months and we are now really excited to finally set off on May 1st from Mizen Head.

“This is a great opportunity to challenge ourselves and on the toughest of roads we will be pushed on by the knowledge we are doing this for such a worthwhile cause. I am one of many people across Northern Ireland whose family has been affected by eating disorders and the more funds we raise the more support we can offer.

“The customers at Centra Windmill have been offering much support and encouragement in the build up which has been fantastic and we would like to encourage more donations to keep us going throughout the challenge,” he added.
