Musgrave MarketPlace has announced plans for an upgrade worth almost £1 million of its Duncrue store in Belfast.

The investment was revealed as the company announced a £2.1 million (€2.5 million) refurb of Musgrave MarketPlace Robinhood in Clondalkin, Dublin.

In November 2016, the company began a programme of investment at its wholesale outlets beginning with the high-spec relaunch of Musgrave MarketPlace Ballymun.

While details of the changes to the Belfast store have not been announced, the revamp at Ballymun and Clondalkin stores include the addition of speciality areas and state-of-the-art tech to offer retail and foodservice customers a new visitor experience.

The updated Belfast store will open in September 2017.

The revamped 73,000 square foot Clondalkin store, meanwhile, will officially open in August 2017. As part of the upgrade, four new roles will be added to its current staff of 80, offering customers expert information and advice.

The roles will be created within the areas of fresh food, alcohol, and equipment along with a new in-branch butcher to advise on specific cuts of meat for customers.

Other new areas include a specialist meat, cheese, fruit, and vegetable counter; a fresh fish area; and a culinary ‘theatre’ to showcase the Musgrave MarketPlace offerings for customers.

Bespoke classes will also be hosted in the ‘theatre’ area, aimed at creating menu solutions for customers with a full-time onsite chef.

Hundreds of new products will be available in the upgraded store as well as online access to the full range. The products have been selected based on extensive international and local trends research commissioned by Musgrave MarketPlace.

Noel Keeley, managing director of Musgrave Wholesale Partners said: “We are delighted to announce the upgrade to both the Robinhood and Duncrue stores following the hugely successful renovation of our Ballymun store.

“The business of food and drink is constantly evolving and as a business, we need to ensure that we continue to innovate and respond to growing trends that impact our customers’ needs.

“This investment is testament to our commitment to providing cash and carry stores of the future. As well as providing our customers with the products they want, we will also be able to add value through our experts on hand in-store.”

Musgrave said the upgrades are part of plans by the brand to deliver refurbishments across all its branches.
