National Lottery retailers step into Christmas sales fest

Following the first of three special National Lottery draws over the Christmas and New Year period last Friday (2nd December), National Lottery retailers have officially stepped into the Christmas sales fest.

The special EuroMillions super jackpot draw had a boosted jackpot of an estimated £112 million, giving retailers a fantastic opportunity to boost sales by up to 71% ahead of the huge draw.

National Lottery retailers can also expect bumper sales from two special £15 million Lotto ‘Must Be won’ draws – the first on Christmas Eve and the second on New Year’s Eve – both of which could boost sales by up to 65%.

In addition to that, a new advertising campaign from The National Lottery will help drive players into stores to buy tickets over the festive period. Directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper, the love story follows two strangers who meet on a train and become lucky in love and the lottery.

As always, there are a few things retailers can do to help maximise the sales opportunities at this time of year:

  • Reminding customers to buy a Lucky Dip at the till ahead of the special festive draws
  • Making sure all POS is sited and the Scratchcard dispenser is full
  • Suggesting a festive Scratchcard to customers to gift to friends or family

In addition to boosting sales commission for retailers, all of this will go towards helping National Lottery players continue to raise over £30 million every week for Good Causes.

Camelot’s Retail Director, Jenny Blogg said: “Christmas is always a special time for The National Lottery and this year is no different with mega prizes on offer to get retail customers dreaming of their perfect Christmas, as well as an incredible new advertising campaign that will get people imagining the joy of winning big this Christmas.

“We hope retailers can make the most of these fantastic sales opportunities and help National Lottery players continue raising over £30 million each and every week for Good Causes,” added Jenny.
