Retailers set for bumper Lotto weekend

Lotto ticket sales for this weekend’s £57.8 million Lotto jackpot are estimated to soar to over 400 a second, according to Camelot.

The record-breaking prize is guaranteed to be won on Saturday night after sales close at 7.30pm, and retailers across the UK are expecting an influx of customers hoping to win big.

James Pearson, Camelot’s head of retail said it could be the most popular draw ever.

“We’re helping retailers deliver the message that this record breaking Lotto jackpot must be won on Saturday with a national in-store poster campaign,” he said. “These are the draws that players love, so retailers should make the most of a great sales opportunity to boost their bottom line, by talking to their customers about the giant jackpot and urging those who want to play to get their tickets now.”

Taking home the entire jackpot will give put the lucky winner’s bank balance on a par with some of music’s biggest stars, including each member of Coldplay (worth £52 million), and Kylie Minogue (£55 million).

Under new rules, the Lotto’s prize fund rolls over until the jackpot reaches £50 million. In that instance, if no players match all six numbers then the jackpot is shared between winners in the next tier, most likely players who have matched the 5+Bonus Ball tier.
