Sales of heated tobacco products soar – JTI launches new Ploom S
Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is launching a heated tobacco product called Ploom S.
Recent research has shown that sales of heated tobacco products have increased by 270% in the UK in the last 12 months, indicating a new direction in consumer preference and demand.
Available in three colours – black, gold, and white – it retails at £89 and is initially available from “60 Accredited Ploom Retailers” – 30 independent convenience stores and 30 vape shops in the first instance, as well as from Ploom-branded pop-up shops and online.
These retailers can buy the device from a JTI Ploom Specialist or on the new JTI Advance shop.
Modern convenience
JTI said the Ploom S device is suitable for both tobacco and vape users (“dualists”) and consumers who enjoy tobacco but “want to choose a new modern heated tobacco product” and “want the convenience of an easy product”.
It said the device delivers a fast heating time, no smoke smell, minimal mess and cleaning, no puff limit, and a heated tobacco blend with two different cuts of tobacco.
The Ploom S device is compatible with JTI’s EVO tobacco sticks.
The EVO sticks are available in four variants – Bronze, Sepia, Emerald, and Purple, and retail at £4.50 for a pack of 20.
To celebrate the launch, a bundle pack including a Ploom S device and five packs of EVO tobacco sticks will be available from Accredited Retailer stores and on Ploom.co.uk, retailing at £39.
Reduced risk products
Nick Geens, head of reduced risk products at JTI, said: “It is predicted that by 2025 there will be nearly one million Ploom users nationwide and that traditional retail will contribute to two thirds (67%) of this volume.
“We know the profit opportunity that this category presents retailers is significant, and we’re therefore committed to making this launch a success and are supporting retailers across the capital every step of the way; using the dedicated assistance of a Ploom Specialist for Accredited Retailers we have planned extensively to support the launch and introduce the device to existing adult smokers.”
