The Refill Revolution – Now Tesco launch Loop Refill Section

Tesco is launching a ‘Loop’ refillable aisle – with 88 branded and own label products on offer. Loop sorts and cleans the returned empty containers for reuse, before they are refilled by suppliers.

Refill shops are not new – with some small independents now offering the option – such as the Fresh Food Centre in Castlewellan and even the new look M&S foodhall at Sprucefield was one of the first multiples to feature its own refill section.

Tesco is trialing the Loop system in ten stores initially – with the initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste. The Loop service allows customers to buy a selection of brands in re-useable packaging – straight off the shelf – then returning the container so it can be cleaned and re-used.
