Allwyn completes Camelot takeover

Allwyn completes Camelot takeover

Global lottery operator, Allwyn has completed its takeover of Camelot, it has been announced.

Camelot will continue to operate The National Lottery until the end of the third licence in January 2024, at which point Allwyn will take over the fourth licence from February, for a decade.

The deal will bring several changes to Camelot’s board and management team, with Sir Hugh Robertson stepping down, having been chairman since 2018. Sir Keith Mills will assume his role as new chair.

Former chief financial officer Clare Swindell and former commercial director Neil Brocklehurst have been appointed by Allwyn as co-chief executives to lead Camelot after the departure of chief executive Nigel Railton.

The takeover comes as Camelot had previously opened a legal challenge against Allwyn relating to the takeover, which was dropped in September last year. Allwyn has previously called for more digital investment for lottery products in convenience stores.
