Man arrested following armed robbery of South Belfast off licence

A man has been arrested following an armed robbery at an off licence in the Botanic Avenue area of south Belfast.

The incident occurred on Monday 24th March around 7.20pm when a male entered the off licence and threatened a staff member with a broken bottle.

Having waited to be served, the man threatened the member of staff with the broken bottle before climbing over the counter, opening the till and removing the takings. He subsequently left the store and made off towards the university.

There were no injuries sustained during the incident.

Police subsequently arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of a number of alleged offences, including suspected robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. He was described as wearing a black puffer coat and grey jogging bottoms.

He was later released on bail to allow for further enquiries.
