New news appointment announced at the Fed

The Federation of Independent Retailers (the Fed) has appointed Andrew Williamson to the newly created position of news category manager.

Mr Williamson, who currently manages the Fed’s Contact Centre operation, will take up his new role from 1st October.

He will be responsible for the delivery of the Fed’s Pro-Print trading strategy, liaising with stakeholders from across the supply chain to ensure members’ service expectations are met, building upon the organisation’s existing supplier trading relationships and identifying opportunities for members to drive revenue via promotional activity from the industry.

Announcing the move, the Fed’s head of news and operations Brian Murphy said: “Appointing Andrew into this position illustrates the Fed’s absolute and continued commitment to the news category, together with its unwavering support for its members and its unique ability in assisting suppliers in selling their products.”

“I am delighted to have been appointed to this new role. Thanks to my six years leading the Contact Centre team, I have developed a good level of understanding of the issues that our members face daily, along with the work undertaken by the news department,” said Mr Williamson.

“I now look forward to putting this experience to good use to further enhance the Fed’s support of the news category and our members.

“I am also excited to further build on the positive relationships that have been fostered between the Fed and our industry partners to ensure that members continue to receive the support and opportunities they require to thrive in retail.”

Mr Williamson’s promotion follows the retirement of news operations manager Peter Williamson after 11 years’ service.

Mr Murphy said: “I would like to thank Pete for all his hard work. He will be missed. Everyone at the Fed wishes him a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
