Second armed robbery in East Belfast sees cash stolen from till

A second armed robbery has occurred in east Belfast, with another shop targeted just days after a weekend incident.

The robbery was reported at a shop on Connsbrook Avenue, shortly before 10am on Wednesday 23rd July, when a masked man armed with a knife entered the premises and approached a member of staff at the counter and demanded that the till was opened.

A sum of cash was taken along with tobacco products, before the suspect made off on foot along with another man, who was also wearing a mask covering his face who had stood at the door while the robbery was in progress.

Both men are believed to have made off along Strandburn Street towards Victoria Park.

The male who entered the shop was wearing a light blue coloured baseball cap, a grey tracksuit and black gloves, while the second male was wearing dark-coloured trousers and a coat, as well as black gloves.

This incident comes a matter of days after cash was stolen and a female member of staff left shaken following an armed robbery at a shop on the Ballygowan Road. Two men are believed to have been involved, one of whom was armed with a wooden mallet.

Cash was stolen from the tills, and the staff member was left shaken, though thankfully not physically hurt.

Detective Sergeant McGearty said enquiries are ongoing into the Connsbrook Avenue incident and appealed for anyone with any information, dash-cam footage or CCTV footage from the area to get in touch.
