Allied Bakeries record breaking year for ‘Neighbours in Need’ appeal
Kingsmill and Sunblest has contributed a significant slice of wider company’s donation of nearly half a million bakery products across the UK in 2020.
The team at Allied Bakeries Belfast, makers of Kingsmill Bread and Sunblest Pancakes, are donating a range of bakery goods for inclusion in Christmas food hampers for the vulnerable and elderly as part of East Belfast Mission’s Neighbours in Need project.
Over 600 bakery products will be donated to the project for the hampers, along with a cash donation that will provide further items for the hampers. This is on top of 9,000 loaves and pancakes already donated to the community throughout 2020.
Christmas gift appeal
Teams at the bakery in East Belfast are also getting involved in the Christmas gift appeal by donating toys to vulnerable families in the area. This festive activity from Kingsmill and Sunblest follows on from the bakery’s food donation programme for local community groups, charities, food banks and frontline service providers that was set up during the first peak of the Covid-19 crisis earlier this year.
Peter Henry, General Manager at Allied Bakeries Belfast said “We’ve always taken a huge amount of pride in supporting the local community here. When the Covid-19 crisis hit in March of this year it was our neighbours, friends and family stepping up to the frontline, and all our team members were immediately keen to support them in any way we could. We’re all proud to have helped provide food for vital breaks during hospital shifts, as well as keep the more vulnerable and needy fed throughout the year. We’re delighted to be rounding off the year supporting East Belfast Mission’s Neighbours In Need project with hamper donations and support for their Christmas appeal.”
Use your loaf
The loaf and pancake donations in Belfast are part of a business-wide effort by Kingsmill and Sunblest to support local communities across the whole of the UK. The eight UK-wide bakeries have donated nearly 450,000 Kingsmill loaves and other bakery goods to local hospitals, ambulance services, schools, fire stations, care homes and charities creating food packs for the vulnerable and food banks. As a company, Allied Bakeries has donated the equivalent of over 2.1 million meals UK-wide this year.
Allied Bakeries Belfast donated further loaves and pancakes during Northern Ireland’s extended October half term school break this year and supported a local café that was providing packed lunches to needy families and children not receiving their hot school meal during this time.
