The team at SPAR Craigyhill did not let the recent COVID restrictions dampen their fundraising efforts for Marie Curie.

Instead of taking part in the Twilight Walk together as a team, individual staff members and their families trekked the local area in support of the charity which has lost out on vital funds recently due to the lockdown.

The store also gave away Barista Bar coffee to shoppers in exchange for a small donation to really get the most out of their partnership.

Ronnie Eynon from SPAR Craigyhill said it was fantastic to get an event in some form together in support of the charity; “it has been desperate for the charities recently, so we’re delighted we could at least do something small and take part in Marie Curie’s Twilight Walk. It is so important we do what we can to help our charities at the moment, and we are very excited to donate over £2,000 to Marie Curie so they can continue their vital services.”

Conor O’Kane visited the store on Friday and says it is tweaking events and not cancelling them entirely that will make a difference in the long run. “We cannot just stop all fundraising as our vital services in Northern Ireland really depend on this money coming in, so we’re grateful to all at SPAR Craigyhill for pivoting and downsizing to continue to help us. It was great to call in and see everyone putting their all into it in a safe and socially distanced way.”

The fundraising total is currently over £2,000 and counting, and all donations can be made via JustGiving until 04 October.
